Ah, 2019. Let’s start this year right, shall we?
You probably think this article is going to be the usual cliché about 8 brutal truths you need to accept to have a better life. But, let me be honest. This will hurt a bit. The following article will either make you instantly hate me or THANK me. It’s up to you.
So, all of you who feel confident with who you are, where you’re headed and what you’re doing in life (because your career is flourishing and you’re working hard on your goals), feel free to skip this. Or keep on reading if you want. Either way, this article is not meant for you.
But, for the rest of you out there who do not feel exactly the same (for certain, obvious reasons), I would like to challenge you right here, right now.
Describe yourself in 3 sentences. But, be careful. You don’t get to say who you are (I’m kind, I’m an honest person….). Instead, you have to write 3 things that you’ve achieved. For example, won a marathon, got a black belt in karate, your café makes the best crepes in town etc.
Are you having troubles?
If yes, continue reading. You’ll either love or hate this. As I already said, it’s up to you.
1. THE ONLY THING THE WORLD TRULY CARES ABOUT IS WHAT IT CAN GET FROM YOU
This society is designed to give you things only if it gets something in return. It might be hard to comprehend the fact that nobody really cares about you unless you have something real to offer, but it is the truth. And when you put it like that, it is quite fair.
The people out there need food, they need houses made, clothes sewed, entertainment, culture, good educational system, functional healthcare system, legitimate and democratic governments.
You have two options. You can accept that reality and do your best to learn a particular set of useful skills that will eventually play a big part in this world or society will throw you away.
You can be the nicest person alive, but if you have nothing useful to offer, you will be left alone.
2. THE BEATLES WERE CLEARLY WRONG
Because you see… love is not all you need. If we’re talking seriously, all you need to survive is a set of useful skills and determination to grab every opportunity that is coming your way.
Some of you might relate to the famous Tyler Durden from Fight club and say… “But you are not your job.”
Erm, news flash? Of course, you are your job.
Your job regardless of your reasons for employment is undoubtedly the sum of all your abilities. The thing you do for a living defines who you are. Your useful skills that satisfy this society’s needs is all you really are.
Love might make your world go around, but hard work and dedication are what keep this system going.
3. THE THINGS YOU HAVE TO OFFER DOES NOT ONLY HAVE TO BRING YOU MONEY, BUT IT ALSO HAS TO BENEFIT OTHER PEOPLE
Don’t get me wrong. If you think that the main reason, I’m writing this article is success and money, then you’re wrong.
The truth is, the things you have to offer have to first benefit other people. If you want to survive and make it in this society, you have to think big. Your talent and your skills have to be someone’s necessity.
Let’s talk about relationships for a while. You are wondering why you can’t get a nice girl/guy to like you?
The person who agreed to go on a date with you doesn’t settle for just about anyone, is devoted to exercising, works hard on their goals and they’re determined to make a change in the world.
Tell me, what do you have to offer to them in return? “Well, I’m nice, loving and I’m honest”
Oh, well so is the whole world out there. Can you do something practical?
You say you’re ambitious, creative, smart and a problem-solver. Well, can you put those words into actions and show these qualities to the world? Can you?
4. YOU DON’T HATE THE WORLD – YOU HATE YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU DON’T DO ANYTHING TO GROW
Look, don’t lie to yourself. The world does not owe you anything. You are the one who needs to get your ass up and go for the things you truly desire.
You’re wondering why you can’t find someone who likes you or find the job that is meant for you. The answer to that question, my friend, is… This world has needs. If you don’t bother to identify your talents and then work on them long enough to master them so you can eventually contribute to this society, you will be left alone in the cold.
And no, please don’t say you’re not good at anything. You can be the dumbest person on this planet, but if you put your mind to something and add a sufficient amount of repetitive work, you can become good at just about anything. Try it.
5. CHANGES ARE HARD – BUT THAT IS HOW YOU EVOLVE
Dare to get out of your comfort zone. Stop being so narrowminded and start thinking outside the visualized box. That is the only way you will possibly evolve and transform into the human being from your dreams.
6. WHO YOU ARE INSIDE ONLY MATTERS BECAUSE OF WHAT IT DRIVES YOU TO DO
At this point, you probably think that I’m this rude, blunt person with a stone for a heart. In reality, I am the most emotional person you’ll ever meet. But these truths have opened my eyes and I would be the happiest person alive if this article manages to do the same for some of you.
What you have inside matters. Who you are when no one is watching is the essence of your soul. Every good and bad thing you’ve done has started with some spark or a bright fire inside of you. Everything you are inside has led you to who you are TODAY.
But the harsh truth is – you are nothing more than the fruit you produce.
Who you truly are means nothing unless it does something for someone else.
7. EVERY PIECE OF YOU WILL FIGHT CHANGES/IMPROVEMENT
It’s a normal natural response. Our mind holds incredible power. And surprisingly you won’t see it more active than when it’s too busy fighting against any change that has the power to disrupt the sacristy of its status quo. That is exactly why some of you will find these words offensive and rude.
Just remember this. Misery and stillness are comfortable. You don’t have to do anything to keep that state the same. But, happiness and success? Well, that you have to work your ass off for.
8. THERE’S NO LESS-PAINFUL WAY TO TELL YOU THIS
I’m sorry, but there’s no other way to really wake you up and open your eyes. You can either feel the painful sensation of being bitch-slapped and wake up once and for all, or you can continue hitting your snooze button and lead a life you’ll end up regretting and hating.
After all, it’s your choice.
