Does your life feel like a never-ending roller coaster of emotions? Life can be tough in normal times. At the moment we’re all suffering from the consequences of COVID-19. The increased isolation at home as well as worrying about older relatives can exacerbate all our problems. Research suggests it also has a damaging effect on women’s mental health.
But don’t despair there are ways of facing obstacles and overcoming the problems we face.
Here are some coping strategies that might be useful.
Know Who Your Friends Are
This might sound obvious but social media can make it very easy for us to feel as if we should have lots of friends. We all want to be popular. But what’s the point in having lots of friends if we can’t turn to any of them in times of trouble?
Be sure to know who your close friends are that you could tell anything to.
Some people find it difficult to cultivate friendships but the best way is to be interested in other people. Ask them questions and spend time with them, getting to know them. If you ask the right questions they will feel more invested in you as you have shown you care about them.
Be discerning and don’t follow up with people or do too much for people you dislike.
Also, remember to avoid the trap of feeling like our friends are more popular and more well-liked than us. Every time we see our friends it’s usually in a social context with other people which gives us a false impression.
Be Kind on Yourself
We put a lot of pressure on ourselves. Social media constantly makes us feel inadequate. When we achieve one goal or buy a new item we find ourselves depressed because there is always someone who can outdo us.
Ignore social media and jealous friends. Set your own goals and be happy with yourself for achieving them. Treat yourself with external validation such as chocolate or something that you like.
Also, treat yourself with internal rewards by complimenting yourself and ignoring the negative voices in your head.
Remember that overcoming challenges is what makes life exciting.
Find a Spiritual Outlook
Many people find spirituality helps them navigate the choppy waters of life. It can give life meaning and you can also be part of a wider community.
Going for a Kundalini Awakening can be one way of unlocking this spirituality. This is one of the best coping skills you can develop. You might also want to take up yoga or read up on other religions and see which ones resonate with you.
Facing Obstacles on Your Own is Hard
Facing obstacles by yourself can be a lonely experience. The worst thing you can do is to go in on yourself and lock everyone else out.
Be sure to surround yourself with supportive friends who can help you through whatever difficulties you are facing.
Finally, consider practicing yoga or joining a religion to give your life meaning and to meet other like-minded people.
