All the classic romance movies show a girl, sad and alone, waiting for Prince Charming to come and rescue her. When he inevitably does, her whole life falls into place and she’s finally happy. I’ll be honest, this narrative is a load of bullsh*t.
There’s no reason to be in a relationship for every minute of your life. You can be a happy, fulfilled person without having someone by your side. Don’t worry about being single – It’s time to enjoy it and live your best life!
Enjoy Your Freedom
Of course, being in a relationship doesn’t mean that the other person should control you. There is, however, still a certain freedom in being single. You don’t need to consult someone on every important decision, you’re the only person involved. As well as that, you don’t need to plan all your social events together, you can go where you want when you want.
Being single allows you the privilege of being one hundred percent in charge of your everyday life. If you ask me, that’s worth staying out of a relationship for. Although you’ll enjoy the time you spend with your partner, you should enjoy your independence while you still have it.
When you’re in a romantic relationship, who you are is defined by who you are with your partner. Both of you grow, change, and learn together. When you’re single, how you evolve as a person is all up to you.
If you’re independent, then you’re given more time alone to see who you really are. You’ll learn so much about yourself that you never knew before. Not just that, but you’ll be able to grow and improve yourself without someone else’s influence.
Relax, You Won’t Die Alone
There’s a certain hysteria that revolves around finding a life partner. Why rush this process? As you grow older, what you look for in another person may change. If this happens, and you commit yourself to someone at age twenty, how do you know that they’ll still be right for you at eighty?
There are plenty of people in the world and so many new people to meet. Don’t throw yourself at the first person that you’re compatible with. Take your time, relax, wait until you’ve found someone really special. It will happen, and when it does, you’ll be glad that you waited.
Not Everyone Wants To Get Married
Some people will try dating and relationships and realize that it’s just not for them. Be it marriage or a non-marital, committed relationship, they don’t want any part of it. People may not understand, and try to comfort them for being single, but really, it’s a choice that they made.
If you want to stay single, that’s great, go for it! You’re the only person who knows what’s best for you and your life. Just because society tells you that you need to be in a relationship to be happy, doesn’t make it true. We can get just as much happiness in our lives from our friends, family, or from ourselves.
Being in a romantic relationship isn’t the be all and end all of life. There are so many other amazing things out there that we could be focusing our time and energy on. Single people have just as much fun and fulfillment in their lives as those with romantic partners.
