According To Research, Couples Who Roast Each Other Are Happier And Healthier

In romance movies, the couple’s love for each other is always intense and passionate. They constantly long to be in each other’s company and hold one another. Although those things may be important in a relationship, there are some things that these movies don’t show you.

What you don’t get to see, is the fun side of dating, the part where you get to goof off with your partner and make jokes. That aspect of being in a relationship is equally as important as all the romance, and science has proved that. According to research, couples who roast each other are happier and healthier.

Roasting Is Just As Important

Humor is crucial in any relationship. However, it’s not just laughing together that’s crucial, it’s being able to laugh at each other too, as long as it’s all in jest. To prove this, researchers at the University of Kansas undertook a study about the role of humor in relationships. They looked at the findings of 39 studies involving over 15,000 participants.

What they found was that couples who shared a similar sense of humor were happier together. Along with that, they found that those who were able to both poke fun at one another and tell sarcastic jokes in a light-hearted way had a more intimate connection.

Professor John Hall, the author of the study, said, “Say you and your partner share a quirky sense of humor, but romantic comedies or sit-coms do nothing for either of you. So, it’s not that any style or a sense of humor is any better or worse. What matters is that you both see quirky humor as hysterical. If you share a sense of what’s funny, it affirms you and affirms your relationship through laughter.”

The Basis of a Strong Relationship

To make a relationship work, couple’s need to have all the basics, like trust, honesty, and an ability to compromise. Those things are the foundation of a healthy relationship upon which everything else will be built.

Once those things are in place, couples can then find more things that make them happy together, such humor, similar goals, and each person’s likes and dislikes.

Humor is arguably one of the more important aspects. Since laughing has been proven to strengthen bonds between people and to keep you healthier in general, it’s definitely great to be with someone that you can laugh with. Along with that, it will make you both happier too.

Keep it Light

Roasting one another is a good sign of a healthy relationship. However, that’s only true when no one takes the jokes too far and both people are comfortable. If you’re constantly telling jokes that seriously hurt your partner’s feelings, or vice versa, things are likely to break down.

Because of that, it’s important to know when to stop. Sure, it’s fun to make fun of your partner sometimes, but only when they’re in on the joke. As long as everyone is laughing, then everything will run smoothly.

Real relationships aren’t just about passionate romance and fairytale endings. They’re about partnership and friendship. When you commit to someone, you’re promising to be with them forever, so why make forever boring? Tell a few jokes at your partner’s expense and let them make some about you too. If you do, your relationship will be so much stronger because of it.

Share this with any couples that you know and find out if they roast each other.
