I Don’t Need A Man To Save Me, I Want An Equal Partner Who Will Support Me

It is truly sad how most people seem to think that women need men in their lives because they cannot survive on their own. That is what we’ve all be taught ever since we were little kids.

That men are the protectors and providers and the women are the caretakers.

Well, I’ve had it!

This has been going on for quite a long time. Long enough for the world to start thinking that women are incapable of living life on their own. Long enough for men to start claiming that a woman’s place is in the kitchen. Long enough for me to continue being silent about it.

I, for one, don’t need a man in my life!

I choose to be with one.

That is why the first thing I look for in a man is respect.

I don’t need a partner to solve my problems, pay my bills, carry me on his back, protect me and make my life complete. I already do that on my own. In fact, I’ve been doing it my whole life. And it seems to me that I’ve done a pretty good job.

It is simple. I don’t need a partner to save me. I don’t need a strong, brave knight on a white horse to take me and make my troubles go away. I don’t need Prince Charming to show me the way. I never liked those stupid fairytales anyway.

Need is not the operative word here.

What I WANT is an equal partner who will accept me for who I am, love every flawed part of myself and support every step of the way. That’s right. The only thing I want in this life is love. Unconditional, free, everlasting, pure, all-consuming, passionate, wild love.

I want a friend. A person who will be able to look me in the eyes and tell me the truth, no matter how much it might hurt me. A person who won’t hesitate to tell me when I’m making a mistake. A person who will genuinely love me for who I am, not for who they want me to be.

I want a life partner. Someone who will always be there to support me – but not financially. I am talking about mental and emotional support. I want a partner who will gladly talk to me about everything that makes my eyes sparkle. Someone who will not be intimidated by my dreams. Someone who will encourage me to never give up on my passions.

I want a lover. A man with whom I’ll create an unbreakable bond. A connection so pure and so strong that no one and nothing would ever be able to break it. A relationship in which we’ll both give our best efforts to create the life that we want. A love that we will both cherish and nurture for all eternity.

I will never ever settle for something less than this.

I don’t need a man who will rescue me from this cruel world. I want a partner who will hold my hand and believe in me that I am strong enough to do that on my own.
