A Wolf Among Sheep Meaning

It certainly takes a lot to be able to even feel the powerful sensation of being a wolf. To experience the strength and vigor the wolf possesses, it takes a lot of spunk, determination, courage, and a strong desire to succeed exceptionally.

All of these traits will make you stand out as a powerful leader who tirelessly works hard while the rest of the group tends to move without having a specific direction.

If you seem to recognize yourself in the following characteristics, it’s certain you own a strong and purposeful personality, and you are what people call a true wolf among the sheep.

Here are 10 characteristics of wolf  personalities:

1. WOLVES HAVE THE COURAGE TO STAND OUT

A wolf will never hide, and a wolf will never fear anything. There is something very primal and fundamental about this beast that makes it refuse to bow down to another creature.

3. WOLVES HAVE A STRONGLY DETERMINED NATURE

Wolves are recognized for their cunning, devious nature, and strong determination. Their powerful will and courage enable them to stalk their prey long before they make the kill. A wolf will taunt their prey and will finally get them down when they least expect it.

There are no obstacles when they’re determined to win the game. If this remarkable trait reminds you in a way of your strong-willed personality, responsible for achieving the goals in your life, you are indeed a wolf.

4. WOLVES ARE PROUD ANIMALS

Wolves are animals who would never surrender themselves and their wolf-pack to an inferior creature. However, when they face a more dominant and powerful animal, they’ll immediately know they’re the inferior one and will try to learn from their elders.

The remarkable ability to sense their opponents makes these incredible creatures one of the most dangerous, and cunning animals.

5. WOLVES ARE GREAT LEADER

Wolves are remarkable leaders. They protect their wolf-packs, they take them for exploration, they teach them to hunt, but most importantly they teach them how to survive.

An alpha wolf always takes care of the whole pack, making sure the weak are protected and nurtured and the young ones are well fed.

If you own this primal instinct to lead the people in your life and take care of their well-being, you’re a true guardian and a natural-born leader.

6. WOLVES ARE TRUE TO THEIR NATURE

Wolves are wild creatures that can’t be tamed. They are unapologetically savage and will never change their nature.

Unlike the chameleon who uses mimicry as a method to hide away from the potential predators, a wolf never changes, but instead, it adapts to the circumstances and fights to survive.

Do you too refuse to follow society’s rules and choose to be your true self instead? If yes, then you have the most fundamental quality of the wolf.

7. WOLVES NEED THEIR FREEDOM

A wolf makes its own rules to live by. They are animals who’ll never allow to be chained down and mistreated. They reflect freedom and they are freedom.

8. WOLVES ARE FAIR

Wolves are known to live by the most fundamental laws of nature. They will respect you if you respect them. A wolf believes that if you treat them fairly and respectfully, you’ll get the same respect back.

Does this appeal to you as well? If you prefer to live your life according to the universal law – “eye for an eye”, then your inner wolf is alive and waiting to be released.

9. WOLVES WON’T SHOW YOU MERCY

Yes, they are one of the most righteous and fair creatures, however, if you manage to get to their bad side, a wolf won’t have mercy. And that’s exactly the trait that makes wolves the most dangerous and brutal animals.

10. WOLVES ARE STRONG AND ENDURING

Wolves are fierce, brave, withstanding. Wolves can take every knife you put in their back with ferocious strength and endurance, they will still bleed from betrayal and pain, but they will never show you they are hurt.

They will pull out every knife people stab in their backs, they will get up, and keep going with a smile. They will never let you see them down. They grieve in silence – much like a wounded animal that hides in the bushes, wanting to get away from its cubs, so they don’t see it hurting. Wolves never show weakness and always suffer alone.

To the world, they will always put on a brave face and protect their loved ones even though their soul may be aching, and to those that hurt them… they will just smile and show just how enduring and powerful they are, how no wind can blow them away.

The reason wolves are so strong lies in the innateness of their strength and pride that does not allow them to show weakness.

11. WOLVES ARE LONER

And while wolves live in packs and exist to protect them, deep inside, they are loners. They can live on their own and they can survive on their own.

If you two crave that solitude and tranquility, you are a wolf in every way.

12. WOLVES DON’T STAND THREATS AND AUTHORITIES

A wolf is frighteningly ferocious when provoked. It is in their nature to protect their loved ones at all costs. So, their fierceness and savage behavior are manifested in everything they do. They are fierce when they protect, but also when they hunt.

If you have this powerful ability to face every obstacle in front of you and take down your enemies, it is most likely that you are the wolf among the sheep.

A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing: Origin And Interpretations In Literature

Many people are familiar with the symbol of the wolf.

The wolf usually serves a positive connotation. It stands for maturity, loyalty, leadership, family values, protection, strength, and endurance. It is vigorous, sly, and intelligent.

Since ancient times, the symbol of the wolf has been regarded with reverence and was seen as a good omen by Native American tribes. Native American tribe members even used to wrap themselves with wolf-skin to get some of the wolf’s power and strength, but over the years, its symbol has expanded, taking up a new, entirely different connotation.

Perhaps you are familiar with the phrase a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Well, the phrase is of Biblical origin, used to describe a person hiding its true character and intentions, i.e., playing the role of a good and kind-hearted person to disguise its true self.

The phrase stems from the Christian New Testament. It was first recorded in the Sermon on the Mount by Jesus: Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves (Gospel of Matthew 7:15, King James Version).

The next record of the idiom is traced back to the 12th-century Greek rhetorician Nikephoros Basilakis’s work called Progymnasmata, which was a collection of rhetorical exercises made by students for their rhetoric aims. There is a fable inside the collection about a wolf that once decided to change his appearance to get more to eat.

Inside there is a line that goes: …But when the shepherd wanted a sheep for his supper, he took his knife and killed the wolf.

The wolf analogy appears next three centuries later in the Hecatomythium (collection of 100 fables) written by an Italian called professor Laurentius Abstemius.

According to the fable, a wolf, dressed in a sheep’s skin, blended himself with the flock and every day killed one of the sheep. When the shepherd realized the ruse, he hanged the wolf on a tall tree.

The skin is that of a sheep, but the activities were those of a wolf – says the shepherd when asked why he hanged one of his sheep.

The symbol of disguise was included in the Cento favole morali (100 moral fables, 1570) of the Italian poet Giovanni Maria Verdizotti. In the fable the wolf dresses as a shepherd, but when it tries to imitate his call, it wakes up the real shepherd and his dogs. The wolf’s disguise shatters, he cannot run away and gets killed.

The symbol of the wolf has its appearance again in the 17th century.  You must be familiar with the story of Red Riding Hood by the Grimm Brothers where the wolf is somewhat portrayed as a male/sexual predator. Again, the wolf uses a disguise to trick a young girl and eat her.
