I think that happiness is the most important thing in the world. Everyone wants to be happy more than anything. For myself, I know I want to achieve all my dreams, spend time with people I love, travel, and have a fabulous relationship with myself.

But, I too, like most people struggle to find and attain happiness. There are times when I feel extremely sad and depressed for no reason at all. Apparently, happiness sometimes does not have anything to do with money and accomplishments, but it lies in the little things that we practice daily.

So, here are 8 habits that you should practice daily that will make you happy and fulfilled every day.

1. Always treat yourself with kindness and love.

We are generally more loving and compassionate when it comes to others than we are to ourselves. Why is that? Why do we have understanding for everyone but not for ourselves? You should always, always, treat yourself with kindness, compassion, understanding, and love in spite of your insecurities and mistakes. And remember, happiness starts from within yourself, so take the best care of you.

2. Unplug technology from time to time.

We live in a society where everyone is distracted by technology. So, turning off your mobile phone or TV for some time can be very good for your emotional and mental wellbeing. You will have more meaningful conversations with people and you will see the day in a whole new light.

3. Give yourself permission to feel emotions.

No matter what anyone says, emotions do not make you weak. Emotions make you human. So, allow yourself to be raw and vulnerable. That’s the first step towards accepting yourself and becoming self-aware of who you are and what makes you happy. Cry when you feel like crying, scream when you are angry. Only do not suppress your emotions.

4. Let go of trivial and unpleasant situations.

Unexpected and distressing situations happen all the time. But, this does not mean that you should let them get to you. Let go of any petty or insignificant situations and don’t let anything or anyone drain your energy and destroy your mood.

5. Put your wishes into practice.

Make a wish list of everything that you need to achieve and a plan on how you will do it. Happy people do not make excuses. They decide to take action and follow their dreams and goals.

6. Keep your physical and mental space organized.

Your cleaning and organizing routines will improve your productivity and increase your happiness. When you are following a routine, you are in a goal-oriented mindset which makes you feel productive and thus happier. When you don’t have a routine, you might feel lost and irritated not knowing what to do.

7. Practice making good decisions.

In life, you usually have two choices – you can say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to certain situations, relationships, people, events, or choices. Happy people carefully choose their decisions. They say ‘yes’ to positive people and experiences, and they say ‘no’ to toxic ones.

8. Eat healthily and exercise regularly.

Eating healthy and exercising regularly will keep your body strong and your mind sharp and happy. You will let go of any negative thought if you decide to spend an hour or two of your day in the gym. You will immediately feel more motivated to take actions in your life.
