11 Things You Should Finally Stop Expecting From People

SHARE

You know what people say – Expect just a little and never be disappointed. And ultimately, it is something all of us have felt it on their own skin.

We go through life, thinking that actually, every experience we face is in our total control. We expect that if we act a certain way, others should do it too.

And that exact state of mind eventually transforms into the wrath of expectations. We get so lost hoping that everything will turn out exactly the way we want it, that we actually forget the true nature of life.

It is unpredictable. And we’re all so different, you can never expect to get something from another individual.

So, from this point of view, you can either try to invest everything in this present moment and hope for the best without having certain expectations or suffer expecting favorable future scenarios while getting hurt over and over again.

Here’s what you should never expect from others:

1. STOP EXPECTING PEOPLE TO SHARE THE SAME OPINION WITH YOU

As you probably noticed, not everyone shares the same beliefs, values, and thoughts as you, and that’s fine. That fact shouldn’t annoy you nor make you angry or confused. The world is not inclined to agree with you.

2. STOP EXPECTING THEM TO BE PERFECT

You need to understand that every person is a unique, individual combination of traits. So, you can’t really expect someone to transform from their original state and be perfect just for you.

And after all, isn’t the term perfect a debatable matter? What’s perfect for you, might be useless and faulty for another person.

3. STOP EXPECTING PEOPLE IT’S THEIR JOB TO MAKE YOU HAPPY

The most important lesson of all. You are the only person who is responsible for your happiness and life overall. You can’t go on blaming others for being miserable.

People can react positively, selfishly, generously, hatefully towards you. However, you are the only one who chooses how to deal with it. The springs of happiness will always be inside ourselves.

4. STOP EXPECTING THEM TO CLEAN UP YOUR MESS

Your mistakes, just like your success are yours only. And nobody should be responsible to clean after the messes you’ve made. If you were strong enough to take action, you should be strong and brave enough to face the consequences as well.

5. STOP EXPECTING PEOPLE TO BE WHO YOU WANT THEM TO BE

No one is going to fit perfectly into your desired mold. If you think you could change a person’s individuality just so they could be compatible with you, you have a problem. The only way to have someone who perfectly fits inside your frame is only if you created them in a laboratory.

6. STOP EXPECTING OTHER PEOPLE TO JUST BE FINE ALL THE TIME

We have all kinds of issues and difficulties we face on our journey called life. So, if you expect someone to be happy and ready to amuse you every time you see them, you should better stop expecting that.  Just let people be.

7. STOP EXPECTING OTHERS TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO READ YOUR MIND

And, the golden rule. I keep listening to my best friend, whining about her boyfriend’s flaws, yet she never talks to him about the issues they face.

 I mean… come on!

You have a mouth and a perfectly functional tongue, for Pete’s sake. Put it to use and actually talk to people about what bothers you. If you expect that someone should read your mind, you are terribly wrong.

Take matters into your hands, for a change, and observe the effect.

8. STOP EXPECTING PEOPLE TO ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING

Okay, I know some people just don’t deserve to even look them in the eyes. They’re what we call – the ultimate a*sholes. Naturally, you shouldn’t allow yourself to expect them to do the right thing.

Sometimes, you won’t be able to control this, and while it sucks a lot, you have to deal with it.

9. STOP EXPECTING THEM TO ACCEPT YOU

I know it hurts not to be accepted and perceived as odd, or “weird”. But, you can’t control a person’s opinion of you.

You must rise above that and realize that not every person would be able to accept your true nature and after all, that’s perfectly fine and normal.

10. STOP EXPECTING OTHERS TO RESPECT YOU, IF YOU CAN’T RESPECT YOURSELF

You need to respect your individuality, you need to understand every flaw in you and embrace it. For that’s the only way to get someone to respect you. By learning to respect and accept your inner self, you’ll get much further in life.

11. STOP EXPECTING TO ALWAYS BE UNDERSTOOD

Last but not least, you can’t really expect to be understood by everyone out there.

I’m sorry, but, on this planet Earth, in this superficial society where people are blindly following the current trends and constantly changing with the tides, you can’t expect to be fully understood.

Especially if within yourself, you carry a soul, genuine and peculiar in its nature.
