It’s Okay Not To Be Okay

Hey you…

I can see what’s behind that strong exterior on your face. I can see the pain in your eyes. Your tears are falling down your cheeks and your veil of confidence is soaking wet. I can feel your scars on your body. They may not be visible, but they can still be felt. Your soul is a battlefield where you constantly compete against yourself.

You want to keep up that image of a strong, powerful and independent woman that doesn’t need to beg others for help.  And up until now, you’ve been doing that just perfect.

But you are no robot, my dear.

You’ve been covering those scars and hiding that pain inside of you for so long, that you’ve forgotten what it feels to be yourself.

You are not made of stone. Your chest is not empty. It carries the most important part of you. Your heart. The reason why you live, breathe and love deeply. The reason why you cry at night. The reason why you smile the brightest. The reason why you exist.

I can see the pain inside of your heart ready to burst out of you, but you refuse to admit how exhausted you are. You refuse to admit that you cannot keep moving forward. You pretend you’re okay because that is how people know you. You pretend that you’re fine because you are too afraid to expose your fragile side to the world. You’ve never done that before. You’ve always believed that showing your tears is a sign of weakness.

And you would rather die than let others see you that you are in desperate need of help.

Well, let me tell you something.

It is perfectly fine not to be fine.

It’s completely okay not to be okay. And you shouldn’t be afraid of showing that. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for your behavior. Showing emotion and shedding a tear doesn’t mean that you are weak. On the contrary, it shows that you are not afraid to be exactly who you are.

You cannot live your life this way and expect to be happy. You cannot keep torturing yourself for the sake of others. You cannot neglect your emotions.

If you don’t feel like smiling today, don’t smile.

If you don’t have the strength to help others, don’t.

If you don’t feel like talking to people, don’t do it.

After all, you were not brought onto this earth to make people’s wishes come true. You’ve been brought here to leave your trace and show the world what you’ve got. You have a mission. And you are on your own.  So, focus on that!

It’s okay not to be okay. Accept your emotions no matter how painful they are and keep moving on.

Cry. Smile. Shout. Scream. Yell. Sing. Fly. Stay in one place.

Do whatever the hell you want and never ever hesitate to expose your true colors.
