Eh, life. It’s a constant waiting.
Have you ever stopped for a minute and observed people’s lives?
We’re always waiting for something better. A better job. A better opportunity. A better partner. A better relationship. A better apartment. A better paycheck. A better future. A better friend. A better idea. A better moment. A better day. A better life.
Do you realize how ridiculously absurd and reckless this kind of behavior is?
We sabotage our own lives and our own happiness and then we blame others for it. We are so lost in trying to do more of everything that we forget to embrace life as it is and be grateful for it.
We live our lives convinced that there are many things that we first need to do in order to be happy. And as we start to grow up, we set these ridiculous expectations for ourselves that determine the course of our lives. Simply put, we postpone our happiness. We program ourselves to believe that we cannot find our happiness unless we do something else first.
And so, we rush to finish high school, graduate from a good college, find a good job, find love, get married, have children, etc. The list is ever-growing. And what’s even sadder, we somehow think, the more, the merrier. It’s madness, I tell you.
And all the while we keep reminding ourselves… “As soon as I finish this I’ll be happy”… “As soon as I do this, my life will get instantly better”…
But we never are. And it never does. You know why? Because when that day finally comes, we are either too old, too tired or still too busy to enjoy our happiness…
The truth is, we all want to live a beautiful life, to plan a wonderful future for us and our loved ones, and just enjoy the fruits of being here in this moment. And to do that, we plan. We invest everything that we’ve got in our present and hope for a better future. And then we wait. But that waiting makes us blind to the only truth out there. That the only thing we have is the present moment. That the time is now.
What if the future never comes? Have you ever asked yourself that? Think about it. You may plan all you want, but in the end, you can never know for sure what tomorrow might bring. And that I think, is more than enough reason for you to finally realize that your happiness should not be put on hold.
It may be shocking for you to understand this, but your happiness is right here and right now. And it is not something that comes to you. It is something that comes FROM you. It is in your own hands. And it is your own choice. No one is holding you back from grabbing it. Only you, my dear. Only you.
So, how about you stop doing what you are doing right now and focus on it?
Don’t delay it. Don’t put it aside for tomorrow. Don’t let go of it. You never know if your plans will work out. You never know what life has in store for you. You, my friend, have no idea how much time you have left. So, use it wisely.
Stop putting your happiness on hold and just be happy!
