Life is not a smooth journey. Sometimes it can get pretty hard and painful. It can throw difficult challenges, problems, and pains your way when you least expect it. And more often than not, when this happens, we try to ignore them since they are too difficult to bear. But, as difficult as they may be to handle, it is necessary if we want to create the life we want.
All the difficulties and obstacles life sends our way are just valuable lessons that we need to accept so as to live a truly happy and fulfilling life.
Here are 6 lessons about life that everyone has to face:
1. No one lives forever.
I know that this sounds harsh, but it’s the truth. Your loved ones, everyone you know, including yourself, won’t live forever. Your time on earth is limited. So, make sure you spend it wisely.
Make sure you spend enough quality time with the people you love the most. Make sure you pursue your goals and make your dreams a reality. Make sure you often do the things that bring a sense of fulfillment and happiness into your life. And last but not least, make sure you live your life the way you want, not the way others expect you and want you to.
2. Unless you love yourself, you’ll never be able to love others.
If you don’t learn how to take good care of yourself and love yourself, you’ll never be able to love anyone else. If you don’t learn how to accept yourself with all of your flaws, you’ll never be able to accept anyone else for who they are. And if you don’t learn to treat yourself with kindness, compassion, patience, respect, and dignity, you’ll never be able to treat anyone else this way.
Remember – if you truly want to nourish your relationships, both romantic and otherwise, you need to learn to practice self-care and self-love first.
3. You can’t change others.
The truth is that if you don’t like how someone talks, thinks, or behaves around you, you are either going to have to find ways to handle it or make a change yourself.
Indeed, there is no point in trying to change someone. Because you’ll never manage to make them fit your mold.
What you need to understand is that everyone is responsible for their own life and if a person doesn’t really want to change, then there’s nothing you can do about it.
4. Love doesn’t make sense.
If you have ever genuinely loved someone, then you’re aware that logic doesn’t really play an important role in relationships. Instead, it is your feelings that sometimes lead you to make poor and unwise decisions. It is your feelings that sometimes lead you to devote your energy and time to someone who doesn’t even deserve a second of your attention. It is your feelings that sometimes lead you to give your heart to someone who doesn’t deserve it.
5. Complaining is just a waste of time.
We all have countless things to complain about. But, instead of wasting your energy and time complaining about your worries, problems, missed opportunities, failed relationships, and past mistakes, try to find a way to solve your problems and improve your life. Try to change those parts of your life that need to be changed so as to achieve your goals and reach happiness.
6. Letting go of people is hard, but it’s worth it.
Sometimes there comes a time in life when you need to let go of certain people. People that don’t contribute to your happiness. People that are good to you only when they need to get something from you. People that are interested in taking advantage of you and playing with your feelings. People that drain your energy and suck the life out of you.
Letting go of such people can sometimes be hard, but it’s worth it. Because that is the only way you can live a truly healthy, happy, and fulfilling life.
