A sweet little puppy who can’t hear is adopted by a man who is also born deaf. And their connection is amazing.
Nick Abbott of Maine is the new owner of the dog Emerson. The dog was previously rescued by the NFR Maine from a shelter in Florida when he was only 6 weeks old.
This adorable black lab mix had an infection known as canine parvovirus and also he has experiences seizures. Luckily, the brave dog pulled through and was ready to get adopted.
“Once we got him home from the vet’s office from Florida, we realized he had hearing difficulties,” said Lindsay Powers of NFR Maine. “He doesn’t let it bother him at all, though he’s a typical puppy.”
She added that life was not treating him good after he was born, but now the puppy got his well-deserved fairytale ending.
She also adds that she is not sure whether Emerson was born deaf or he lost the hearing later.
4 months ago, Powers started looking for a forever home for Emerson. She shared Emerson’s story in a Facebook post, hoping to find him a warm home. Just some weeks later, she received an application from Nick who told her that he is also deaf and would love to take care of Emerson and connect with him.
She immediately processed Nick’s application.

Nick met Emerson in person and they immediately hit it off. Nick’s mom has later told Powers that the dog and his son are made for each other.
“It’s amazing! Whenever they’re together, Emerson is always finding a way to lean on Nick.”
Richelle Abbott, Nick’s mom, also shared that Nick has been teaching Emerson sign language to come, sit, and lay down.
“If Nick reaches up and shakes his ear lobe, Emerson will bark — it’s so cute,” she added.
