When you think of Hollywood awards shows, you probably imagine grandiose gowns and diamonds dripping from every star. But don’t let these glitzy looks fool you. Many of them were also practical for the red carpet! The following are just some of my favorite examples.
Julianne Hough
For the 2014 Emmy Awards, Julianne Hough looked gorgeous in a DSquared2 white bustier evening dress.
Hough is best known for her role as a professional dancer on Dancing With the Stars and her work as a professional actress. She’s also partnered with multiple fashion houses over the years, including Oscar de la Renta.
DSquared2 is one of those very special brands that has made its name in evening wear. And they’ve been doing it since 2003!
Sofia Vergara
At the 2013 Emmys, Sofia Vergara wanted to make a statement. The celebrity chose these gigantic earrings made of Colombian emerald, sapphire, and rubies. But Sofia felt that she needed more glitter.
On her right hand, she put a massive 40-carat Colombian emerald ring, and on her left, a 21-carat diamond. If you want to add similar emerald rings to your collection, you can visit popular online jewelry stores and explore their 2023 collection. You’ll find a variety of stunning emerald rings to suit your style preferences.
Taylor Swift
She stunned in a J. Mendel ensemble at the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards.
We may not be country music fans, but we can get behind the beauty of Taylor Swift’s 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards look. The singer stunned on the red carpet in a slitted skirt and crop top. Her hair was swept back into an elegant updo, and she wore golden earrings. She was nominated for Best Entertainer and Best Female Vocalist but ended up winning neither.
The singer was in good company on the red carpet, as other stars like Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert also looked stunning. The 2014 ACMs were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 6.
Jennifer Lopez
She wore a shimmery Elie Saab dress to the 2015 Academy Awards. If you’re going to stand by J. Lo’s side, you should probably look good. She wore this Elie Saab dress, made of pure silk charmeuse and embellished with sequins, at the 2015 Academy Awards.
The gown featured a V-neckline and a trendy slit up one side, which made an elegant statement. The asymmetrical hemline also added some interest to her otherwise simple silhouette, while the layered tulle skirt gave it some flair without being too overwhelming or bulky.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o looked chic in this blue Prada dress at the 2014 Oscars. The actress wore a strapless and sheath dress with a short train. The dress was made with a silky fabric and had a crystal embellishment.
It also featured a long flowing design, which highlighted her long legs. She wore her hair up in a band, with tight curls that were swept back. She wore minimal jewelry, only wearing earrings and a bracelet that had a looped design.
Olivia Munn
Olivia Munn was a showstopper at the 2012 Emmy Awards after-party in this Armani Prive Couture dress. The stunning black design featured a plunging neckline and strapless detail, as well as a fitted side that gave the look an elegant yet sensual twist. The fabric was silky to the touch and draped beautifully over her slender frame.
This designer is legendary, so it’s no surprise that his designs are both sophisticated and stylish.
Naomi Watts
She looked stunning in this dramatic Zac Posen gown at the 2013 Visual Effects Society Awards.
If you’re looking for a glamorous Hollywood look, check out Naomi Watts’s 2013 Visual Effects Society Awards. The Zac Posen gown is simple yet stunning with its strapless design and sleek silhouette. It’s a great choice for those who want to stand apart from the crowd.
Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz looked stunning in a dramatic Zac Posen gown at the 2010 How Do You Know premiere.
The actress wore a custom-made Zac Posen dress with sheer embellishments and pink feather accents. The dress also featured an intricately patterned lace bodice, which was complemented by a ballerina-length skirt, making it easy to walk down red carpets (and run from paparazzi). Cruz accessorized her look with diamond earrings.
Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman looked stunning while wearing an Alexander McQueen gown and Bulgari jewelry to the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The Australian actress picked up her first Oscar trophy that year for her role in “Moulin Rouge,” which she was nominated for again in 2003 for Best Actress for “The Hours.” Kidman’s jewelry was simple, but the diamond and gold earrings added just enough sparkle to her outfit.
Kidman’s Oscar-winning performance in “Moulin Rouge” also earned her a Best Actress Golden Globe. It also got her nominations for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
Halle Berry
She received a standing ovation when she stepped onto the 2002 Oscars red carpet wearing an elegant Elie Saab dress. Halle Berry’s 2002 Oscars red carpet look is one of the most unforgettable looks in awards show history. She wore an elegant Elie Saab mesh gown, which earned her a standing ovation when she stepped onto the red carpet.
She won the award for Best Actress that year for her performance in Monster’s Ball. The look also made history on another level. Berry was the first African-American woman to be nominated for an Oscar in a leading role. She also won the Golden Globe trophy earlier that year for her performance.
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson wowed us all with her Marchesa number at the Met Gala 2018. Red carpet dresses are often the most talked-about awards show moments, and it’s no surprise why.
These gowns have been painstakingly designed to showcase the wearer’s best assets and sometimes even challenge them to get creative with their poses. No matter how many times you’ve seen these beauties on TV or in magazines, you’ll still be transfixed by them.
Turn Yourself Into a Hollywood Star for Your Next Event
For your next event, you should look to the stars for inspiration. If you’re going to an awards show or other glamorous party, try on a dress with a fitted waist and hemline that hits right above your knee. You can also choose a dress with sleeves or no sleeves at all.
Try not to go too low with your neckline. You don’t want anything too revealing, and avoid strapless dresses altogether unless they’re long enough to cover up any unwanted cleavage. Finally, make sure you find comfortable shoes and easy to walk in. This may sound basic, but if you aren’t comfortable in your shoes, there’s no way anyone else will be either!
We hope you enjoyed these stunning celebrity looks.
