Finding that someone was talking behind your back is a terrible feeling, especially when that someone is a friend of yours. And even though gossip leaves you disappointed and even heartbroken, you should know that it’s not about you but everything about them. They may do it out of jealousy, envy, insecurity, or because they feel threatened by you and your success.
Here’s how to deal with them effectively.
1. DON’T DO THE SAME THING
Don’t fight the gossipers by even more gossip. That would succumb to their level. Be better than that. Don’t let them see that they have put you down. Hide your anger and disappointment from them. Don’t give them the satisfaction of thinking that they have won.
2. LET IT PASS AND DON’T DO ANYTHING
By involving yourself in gossip or confronting them openly, you won’t stop them from doing that. They will still continue talking behind your back. Therefore, the best thing you can do is ignore them and wait for them to find someone new to talk about.
3. HAVE CLEAR BOUNDARIES
Don’t start a fight with them if there’s no need. However, don’t pretend like it didn’t happen either. Forgive them but don’t forget the incident and what they have done to you. Your boundaries should be firm and clear and don’t allow anyone to mess with them.
4. BE POSITIVE
You need to be positive in order to fight negativity. Try to see the situation from their perspective. Why would someone act that way? Maybe they feel threatened, insecure, or jealous. Try to see their reasons and understand them. Be nice to them. Be positive. Fight their negativity with positivity and you will always win.
