There are people in this world who seem to have their life together. They have amazing lives, successful careers, loyal friends, rich social life, and a loving partner by their side. When we read about these people or see them, we can’t help but wonder, how they do it?
Because, if you are like me, you feel a little lost. You don’t have everything figured out. Those people with their “perfect” life also feel lost sometimes. Behind their glossy appearance, they are human, just like you and me. We are all trying to make sense of our lives and sometimes we fail. But that’s okay.
Here are 5 reasons why we feel lost and what we can do about it.
1. WE SURROUND OURSELVES WITH PEOPLE WHO BRING US DOWN
Spending time with people who are negative and therefore toxic for our wellbeing is one reason why we feel lost. When we surround ourselves with people who are constantly whining and are pessimistic about everything, then we will start to think negatively about life as well. That’s why it is essential to be around positive and happy people. People who make us feel good about ourselves and life in general.
2. WE HOLD ON TO INGRAINED BIASES AND FEARS
Oftentimes, the negative and scary things we tell ourselves are based on our fears. They are not based on reality. So, when we feel lost, we may be feeling that way because our fears have emerged to the surface. In this case, it is important to heal from our past wounds and fears we are carrying with us and shift the mindset we have. We should understand that those things that happened in our past can only define our future if we let them.
3. OUR SENSE OF SELF IS DISTORTED
Usually, when we feel lost, we are in a period of our lives when we don’t like ourselves. We tend to a very distorted perception of ourselves. We don’t feel worthy, beautiful, or smart enough. That’s why we must spend more time with ourselves and learn what makes us happy. We must put ourselves first and start appreciating and loving ourselves just the way we are. We should start believing in ourselves and in our power.
4. WE TRY TO LIVE IP TO OTHER PEOPLE’S EXPECTATIONS
When we feel lost in life, we tend to compare our lives with the lives of others and live to their perceptions of what is considered a good life. When we try to live up to someone’s expectations, we immediately lose ourselves and our identity. We are all different and we all want different things in life. Stop comparing yourself to others and start living your life according to your rules. You only have one after all.
5. WE NEVER STEP OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONE
When we never take a moment to venture out of our comfort zones, it is given that we will feel a little lost and confused about our lives. We will wonder if we are doing the right things. That’s why we must go to places we’ve never been before, meet new friends and cultures. That will open our minds and we will be happy with life again.
