A lot of us are guilty of believing that every rich and famous figure out there is greedy, selfish, and inconsiderate. It’s hard not to think that when we ourselves are so far removed from them. We only really see how they present themselves to the world and have no idea who they are away from the camera.
Although some celebrities may not be the nicest, many of them are genuinely kind and decent people. Some of them even commit the most wonderful of deeds while trying to keep it a secret from the rest of us. Well, now the secret’s out – Keanu Reeves has been funding children’s hospitals all over the world.
The Kindest Actor Out There
Over the years, countless people have come forward to praise Keanu Reeves. They speak about not just his acting skills and professionalism, however, but of his kindness too. He’s been said to have always been friendly with his coworkers and even treat them to breakfast or drinks.
In addition to all of that, Redditors have also been sharing their own experiences with Reeves. Many of them have stated that he had given them rides to places they needed to go. They also shared that when he worked with people who were going through a rough time, he even gave them large bonuses to help them.
According to the Daily Mail, his charitable nature doesn’t end with just breakfast and bonuses. They reported that he even shared $100 million dollars with the costume and special effects teams who worked on the renowned Matrix trilogy.
He’s Loved on the Internet
Recently, one Redditor, with the username bo2dd2, decided to speak about his experience with Reeves. He started his story by saying, “Back in the late 90s and fresh out of college I got my first job as an assistant prop designer on the set of Chain Reaction. EVERY DAY for the last few weeks of filming, Keanu treated the stagehands and “grunt workers” (including myself) by taking us out for free breakfast and lunch. He was genuinely a very nice guy to work with.”
The Reddit user then went on to state that “Since then, I’ve worked on about 30 different sets and have never met an actor as generous and friendly as him. Most actors I’ve seen and worked with are total d**** who always think they are better than us. Keanu on the other hand, at the very least, was socially approachable and definitely kindhearted.”
He Kept His Secret For Years
In a recent interview with Ladies’ Home Journal, Reeves finally spoke out about his most charitable act. He revealed that he has been funding cancer research along with many children’s hospitals. According to the actor, he has “a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research.”
The empathy that he feels for cancer patients comes from first-hand experience. When his sister was battling Leukemia, the actor saw just how physically draining both the disease and treatment are.
Although many people would be more than happy to brag about acts of compassion such as this, he hasn’t. Reeves has decided to remain humble and stay quiet. Instead of bragging about his efforts, he said, “I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”
Sadly, not everyone has the ability to give as much as Keanu Reeves does. However, of those who do have the means, many of them don’t have the same compassion that he does. The world could definitely use more people as generous, humble, and kind as him. He truly is a hero amongst us.
