When we hear that someone is depressed, in the majority of cases we link sadness to it. However, oftentimes depression has many forms.
Different people are affected by depression differently. People with concealed depression usually go through their day as if everything is normal, however they hide their sadness inside them and it usually manifests in these 5 ways:
1. THEY DON’T FACE THEIR EMOTIONS PROPERLY
Individuals with concealed depression tend to ignore the negative emotions they are feeling and instead, they bottle them away which results in anger outbursts and lashing out as time goes by.
2. THEY FACE EVERYTHING IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN OTHERS
People with concealed depression often rely on things that make them feel better and help them go through the day: things like obsessive eating, caffeine, alcohol, or anything that is excessive.
3. THEY TAKE ON MORE THAN THEY SHOULD
They want to help others and that’s why they put so much on their plates. They can’t say no when someone asks them to do something. However, this often happens because they want to escape their reality by dealing with other people’s problems instead of their own.
4. THEY DISAPPEAR WITHOUT EXPLANATION
Sometimes, these people can disappear without explanation for a period of time and then come back as if nothing has happened. This is their way of dealing with their demons and getting time for themselves.
5. THEY ALWAYS ASSUME THE WORST
When something goes wrong in their life, they always think that it’s the end of the world. They can’t remain calm. Their mind is always assuming the worst possible scenarios that keep them up at night.
If you recognize someone with these symptoms, talk to them. Ask them about their feelings. Try to help them get out of the depression they are in. Let them know they are not alone.
