Ten days ago, a woman quarantined in Italy posted a grave warning on Facebook about the severity of the coronavirus outbreak and the consequences that Italy is dealing with and she went viral.
Her name is Cristina Higgins and she is an American woman currently living in Italy along with her husband and her three children. According to NBC News, she has been on lockdown in Bergamo for two weeks now.
Terrified and alarmed by the devastating increase in the number of confirmed cases and deaths in Italy in such a short period of time, she used Facebook to share her experience and her post went immediately viral.
“We have friends who are getting sick. It’s very stressful,” Higgins told NBC News.
“I am nauseous all day long, because every time I look at the news or talk to somebody else, something terrible has happened. And I don’t know what’s going to happen next.”
Her status reached 1.2 million shares and over 144,000 comments after Ms. Higgins urged people to not take this lightly and push their governments to take immediate measures.
She also cautioned young people to not disregard the severity of this disease, urging them to listen to and follow the directions of their state and local authorities regarding the current situation and stay quarantined.
So far, Italy is the second most affected country worldwide next to China. The country is in complete lockdown and people in Bergamo are under government-ordered home isolation whether or not they’re ill. These measures have been taken two weeks ago, yet the number of infected people and deaths is growing drastically.
