It’s funny, huh? How we take life so granted. How we make our conscious choice to dwell on our past mistakes and ignore the beauty of the present moment. It’s silly and absolutely reckless of us. And yet, we do it.
We go through life not being aware of just how beautiful it is. We live it regretting our past and focusing on the future. We forget to stop and smell the roses. We forget to take a look at the sky. We forget to let our loved ones know what they mean to us. We forget to express gratitude for everything that life is giving us. We forget to live.
We simply rush our way through life and in that process, slowly, we get blind to every day’s opportunities. Our endless desire to always have more, more and more makes us lose our sense of life purpose.
Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against feeding your ambitions. Chasing your goals. Working hard on achieving your dreams. That’s all wonderful and it is truly inspiring.
But let us not forget one very important thing.
Gratitude is the spark that lights the fire in your soul. And it is through gratitude for the present moment and everything around us, that one finds purpose in life. For gratitude is the switch that helps you turn darkness into light. Gratitude is the powerful force that transforms what you have into enough. And, so much more.
I know, it is easy to lose yourself in today’s opportunistic, money-driven, fast-paced, and chaotic world. It is easy to lose yourself in this wretched materialistic, world of ours. The more you have, the less you value your possessions. The more you own, the greedier you become. And just like that, the quicker you forget just how blessed you are.
If you, my friend, have people who love you unconditionally… If you have people who would do anything for you… If you have a family that accepts you and loves you for who you are, you not only have enough… You have it all.
If you have a roof over your head… If you have a warm meal on your table… If you have clean clothes… If you have a nice, warm bed that you can crawl into at the day and fall asleep without a single worry on your mind… You have it all.
If you are here after everything you’ve been through in life… If you are alive and well… If you are breathing, laughing, smiling, existing … If you add a certain value to this world only by being who you are… You, my dear, are truly blessed.
Cherish those gifts. Instead of taking them for granted and asking for more, remind yourself that there are people in this world that would do literally anything to have your life. People who would give up everything to have what you have if only for just one minute.
Let go of the past. Stop worrying about the future. Instead, learn to live in gratitude. Learn to live in this exact moment. Be aware of the abundance around you and live every moment as if it’s your last. And always remember, when you are thankful for what you have, life always rewards you with more.
