Dear Mother, best friend, second self, thank you for being there for me.
Thank you for loving me the best way that you could.
Thank you for sacrificing yourself for me.
Thank you for showing me the right way in life.
But, most importantly, thank you for never making me doubt your unconditional love.
Every time I close my eyes, I recall my childhood. I get back to a time when I was just a little girl and I can feel your warm embrace and comforting presence just like it was yesterday. I can feel your hands running through my hair and cuddling my head before I fall asleep.
I can hear your soothing voice that always made me feel safe. I can hear you saying “Good night my sweetest love. Mommy loves you more than you could ever imagine.” And I remember why I haven’t felt so unconditionally loved and cared for by someone else.
These memories are fresh because you’ve always been that same person. You’ve always loved with your whole heart and you’ve always loved pure. So, if someone asked me what my favorite part of our relationship is, I think it would be the fact that you’ve never made me wonder about your love. You’ve never made me doubt you. You’ve never failed to show me how far you’d go for your own children.
And for that, I am thankful beyond words. I am thankful for being raised with your unwavering support and unconditional love. I am thankful for the love that you poured into my heart because I know how traumatizing and how painful it is to grow up with people who never loved you. I’ve felt that sorrow in people who have never had that parental love when they needed it. They are bitter and they are angry at the world. They want to hurt others. They pretend like they don’t need to be loved by someone. But in reality, they are the ones who need to be loved the hardest.
Knowing how cruel this world is, makes me realize that I am the happiest person alive with you by my side. Because you, mother, you helped me stand on my feet. You were there every moment of my life. To teach me about life, to lift me up, to inspire me to keep moving, to support me every step of the way, to celebrate my victories, to remind me that I should always believe in myself, to tell me when I am wrong, and more importantly, to love me with all of your heart.
Mom, you know me more than I know myself. You know my joy, my sorrow, my happiness, my fears, my insecurities and you know my heartache. You know the rhythm of my heart. You know how I breathe. You know my most terrible secrets. You’ve seen my darkest sides and you still love me more than anything in the world. You still love me from the bottom of your heart.
For that, I am thankful beyond words.
Who I am today is because of you. Your care. Your support. Your consistency. Your devotion. Your discipline. Your love.
One day I will get married and have children on my own. And I promise you, that as long as I live and breathe, I will raise those children with the same love that you gave me. I will make sure they feel everything that I felt growing up with you by my side. And I will never let them wonder about my love for them. Just the way I never wondered about your love for me.
