“The sad thing that many of us empaths don’t realize is that often our desire to heal others is a disguised cry for help for our own healing.”
– Mateo Sol
No one said that being an empath was easy. Although it may be a wonderful gift that few people are lucky enough to possess, it’s not all sunshine and daisies. Like everything else in life, having the power to really understand other people’s emotions can come with its downsides.
Having empathic abilities is amazing, but it’s also draining. Unsurprisingly, it can cause the people who have these abilities to become extremely fatigued, as well as anxious. Being an empath is physically exhausting and can lead to insomnia.
You Spend All Your Time Around Other People’s Energies
If you’re an empath, you’ll understand just how much influence other people have on you. As well as having your own feelings to deal with, you also have the energies of everyone around you too. There’s never a moment of peace for you because of it.
When someone is having a bad day, you’re the first to know about it. You immediately pick up on the negativity and wear it as your own. What’s even worse is when the people around you have conflicting emotions. In this case, you’re torn between every feeling in the room, not knowing where exactly you stand.
With all of this going on, it’s only natural that you’d be tired. Regular people become exhausted from only dealing with their own emotions, so dealing with everyone else’s too can be a hundred times worse. Although it’s something most empaths would never dream of giving up, this power is undeniably strenuous.
There’s No Outlet For Your Thoughts
Every day is so full of emotions, thoughts, and experiences for you. There’s no chance for you to take a break from it all, even when you’re all alone. It seems like the only time that you can get any peace is when you sleep, but even that can prove difficult.
Many empaths have trouble sleeping because of all the thoughts swirling around in their minds. They can’t shut off all the excitement from the day or quiet their heads. The only thing that they can do is lie there and hope that they can get some sleep that night.
Some nights it will take you hours to finally close your eyes and rest. On other nights, you might not even sleep at all. Not only is this stressful, but it also doesn’t help the exhaustion that you already feel. It’s a vicious cycle of tiredness, restlessness, fatigue, and insomnia that seems to have no end in sight.
The world needs empaths, they make everything happier and brighter for the people around them. The problem occurs when it comes to their own wellbeing. Being so sensitive to energy can cause a wealth of problems for you if you have this power. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to take some time alone to unwind. As well as that, always remember self-care.
