Then you better listen to what your real friends tell you.
If you are ready to be pounded hard and bitch- slapped in the face for your own sake, ask them.
A real friend will never lie to you to spare you from getting hurt. They won’t sugar coat anything for you. They won’t create pleasant-sounding scenarios just, so you can feel better. No fake bullshit, no fairytales.
And may I just say, thank God for these people.
Real friends will have the courtesy to look you in the eye and tell what’s what.
They are going to let you know when you look like a piece of trash. They are going to tell you when you’re making a big mistake. They won’t sit idly by while you’re unconsciously doing everything to ruin your own life.
At the risk of destroying every hope you have and ruining your day, they will always tell you the truth. No matter how brutal it is.
Because they are your guardians. The light that shows you the way. The people who sometimes know you better than you know yourself. The people who will be objective and open your eyes when you’re too busy surfing on 7th heaven.
Your real friends are real because they don’t care if they’re being nice or pleasant while telling you something you don’t want to hear. They actually care more than you know, that is why they choose to tell it to your face, not wait for you to figure it out yourself. They won’t pretend to don’t know what’s happening.
If they caught your boyfriend is cheating you, they’ll let you know. If they sense that your colleague from work is plotting something against you, they’ll let you know. If they hear something bad about you, they’ll stand up for you. If they notice you’re hiding something, they won’t stop until you feel comfortable enough to get it out of your chest.
When you are at your worst, they’ll be there for you. When you fall on your knees, they’ll lift you up and remind you that this life has a lot to offer. When you’re acting out, they’ll yell if they need to, but they’ll do anything to talk some sense into you.
When you feel lonely, they’ll surprise you with an unexpected midnight visit with beer and pizza. When you cry, they’ll wipe up the mascara running down your face. When you feel sad, they’ll get wasted with you.
Whatever you’re experiencing, they’ll put up with it. They’ll do anything to make you feel safe.
They’ll scream, they’ll shout at you, they’ll cry with you, they’ll laugh with you, they’ll slap you with the unpleasant truth, they’ll let you know when you’re behaving like a spoiled brat, BUT…
They will never judge you.
Because that’s what friends are for.
To tell you everything you’re too afraid to admit. To have your back. To encourage you to fly. To pick you up when you’re too knee deep in the gutter. To cover up your dramas when it’s necessary.
To all of you amazing people in my life, you may be just a few, but you’re everything I need in life.
