I am sure that no one wants to be around rude people. However, those situations inevitably arise, and we cannot do anything, except learning how to deal with them properly and safe our mental and emotional health. Here are 5 things you can do to block their toxicity from affecting you.
1. MAKE THEM FEEL LIKE YOU UNDERSTAND THEM
When someone is rude to you, the last thing you want to do is being rude to them. Don’t lower yourself to their level. Instead, be polite and positive. Be understanding. Tell them you understand and appreciate their views. This approach will quickly disarm them because they won’t have anything to battle with.
2. THANK THEM
This is by far the best way to deal with rude and obnoxious people. By saying ‘thank you’ and smiling, you will show them you are the bigger person because you refuse to engage in a nasty and petty behavior. Plus, you will show them the contrast between their maliciousness and your kind and gracious nature.
3. AGREE WITH THEIR PERSPECTIVE
Sometimes, even though someone says something to you in a rude and aggressive manner, it doesn’t mean that they are wrong. Listen to them, and then agree to their complaint and offer them a solution. A rude person never expects acknowledgment or agreement and that will catch them off guard and turn the situation in your favor.
4. LAUGH IT OFF
Because sometimes that is all you can do to deal with their ‘crazy’ behavior and unexplainable rudeness and hostility.
5. LEAVE THE CONVERSATION IF IT HAS BECOME TOO BURDENING
Don’t be afraid to end the conversation and leave if things get too difficult for you. You have every right to walk away from people and situations that don’t make you feel good. Never apologize and never feel bad for that.
