8 Choices We Will All Regret 10 Years From Now

SHARE

We think we have plenty of time, but the truth is… we don’t.

We constantly hurry, we run to catch that bus, we run to catch that opportunities, we run so we don’t get late, we hurry to finish all our work in time, we bend over backward to schedule everything, we run to get someplace, and we eventually forget how to live.

All of that running around in circles make us forget about the things that really matter in life. The people we genuinely love, but forget to let them know just how much we care, those precious moments that only happen once or twice in life, or those things that we could have changed but never got the time to…

The thing is, we’re living in an illusion that we have time. But, time won’t always wait for you.

Below are the 8 most common things people regret after a certain period on life.

I hope these words will eventually get to every one of you and remind you that this moment is all we have in life. This moment, this second right now is all that really matters… So, make it count.

1. NOT SPENDING ENOUGH TIME WITH THE ONES WE LOVE

Look, people will come, and people will go. And someday, they will vanish from the face of the earth. Someday you will have to face the loss of your loved ones.

But until that day comes you have a whole lot of time to devote it to your loved ones. Start today. Don’t make any excuses, don’t schedule other unimportant things. Just get up and show up. No matter how busy your life is, always do your best to find time for the ones that matter. Because at the end of the day, nothing you’ll give to another person will be more thoughtful and memorable than your time.

2. WORKING HARD SO EVERYONE WOULD LIKE US AND FORGETTING ABOUT OUR NEEDS

Mark my words. 10 years from now you won’t even remember what brand you bought and how much money you spent to impress the people around you. It won’t matter how smart, funny or wise you seemed to them.

What will matter is what you did for yourself. How hard you loved, how much you’ve worked on yourself and what lessons you learned from life.

So, my advice to you is, stop pleasing others and start focusing on yourself. Life is not a competition between you and other people. The only person standing in your way is you.

3. LETTING SELF-DOUBT MAKE US COMPLETELY POWERLESS

Life is nothing but a chain of uncertain and unpredictable experience. Every new morning, every step you take, every new person you meet, every obstacle you face is just a part of the journey. When you think about it, with every next step we take, we take a leap of faith and we dive into the unknown. We risk. We have no clue what could go wrong or what could go right.

But that is the beauty of it. Therefore, I say, embrace uncertainty and embrace changes. Because making a mistake is much better than not knowing.

4. HOLDING ON TO CRAZY IDEALS AND MISSING OUT ON REAL OPPORTUNITIES

Stop holding on to things that could never come true. Stop wasting your time on ideals that only exist in fairytales. Stop holding on to things that were never meant to be in your life and start paying attention to the real opportunities that are passing you by.

Goodbyes may be hard, but they simply open the door for new, incredible experiences and fresh starts. Learn to let go of everything that doesn’t help you grow.

5. ALLOWING FAILURES TO DISCOURAGE US

We’ve all failed, and we’ve all been hurt. It’s just the way it goes. It is life. But we’ve all learned a lot from our mistakes.

It might be hard to understand and accept, but failures should never be your obstacle. You should never let them discourage you. On the contrary, failures should always be the pointers that let you know what you should change in order to succeed.

6. ADOPTING THE VICTIM MENTALITY

Life is a difficult journey, I’ll give you that. But, once you adopt the victim mentality, it is even worse. Believe me.

We are all fighting our battle out there, we’re all just looking for ways to deal with our insecurities. And let me tell you, it is not easy. But we’re not giving up. And that is what matters the most.

7. WASTING OUR PRECIOUS TIME WAITING WITHOUT TAKING ANY STEP FORWARD

Have you thought about doing something and then stopped because it seemed like it’s not the right moment?

Well, news flash for you. It never is. The right moment will never come. You will never be 100% sure and ready to take a leap of faith and jump.

Waiting for that perfect moment, perfect life, perfect job, the perfect man, the perfect relationship, the perfect apartment will only make overanalyze all of the options and become even more terrified of making the initial step.

Just breathe and do what you have to do. Even if you make a mistake, you’ll still get to learn something important. The time is now.

8. BEING TOO BUSY TO SLOW DOWN AND REALLY APPRECIATE OUR LIFE

I get it. We’re grownups and this is the bittersweet reality. We are constantly on the go. We’re constantly rushing get somewhere. We do not stop at anything.

But, that chaos inside our minds is only destroying our lives.

We’re missing out on everything that matters in life, thinking that one day we’ll finally have all the things we need, and then we’ll get to enjoy life. But the truth is, tomorrow might never come for some of us.

So, let us focus on what we have now and let those precious everyday moments fill our hearts with nothing but appreciation and love.
