Look, I know you’re probably stuck in your cozy comfort zone, I feel you. I’ve been there. But, as much as it feels peaceful, it is bad for you.

And, trust me, it can’t go on like that forever.

A wise man once said, “A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for.”

So, if you want to start living your life and open your eyes to the possibility of new experiences, you first need to understand some of the most important truths about life.

I won’t lie, they can be hard to swallow, but I promise that once you accept this way of life, you’ll be a brand-new, improved and changed person.

Here are 17 harsh and brutal truths about life that you’ve probably heard, but chose to avoid. They will shake your belief system, but they’ll help you get your shit together:

1. YOU ARE GOING TO DIE

No, there’s no such thing as an elixir of youth, or a potion for immortality. You are dying. So, stop wasting your precious time on nothing and start focusing on the important things.

2. EVERYONE YOU KNOW WILL BE GONE

As I said. You are dying. We’re all dying. And there’s nothing we can do to change that fact. It’s a natural cycle of life. The only thing you can do is stop taking people for granted, appreciate them for being in your life and hug them tightly. Let your loved ones know that they matter. Tomorrow might never come.

3. MONEY CAN’T BRING YOU HAPPINESS

Yes, I know it’s better to cry in an overpriced, luxury villa than in a cheap, crappy motel room. But, money will never make you happy, if you aren’t happy with yourself. Happiness is something that comes from within. Nothing or no one can help you if you can’t.

4. DESPERATELY SEARCHING FOR HAPPINESS MAKES IT HARDER TO FIND IT

That being said, you won’t find happiness if you chase it. Get your head out of the clouds and think for a second. Life won’t always be sun shines and rainbows. But, at the end of the day, it’s up to you and your reaction to it.

5. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, YOU CAN’T MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY

This one is a given. You can try to please everyone, but the more you give, the more they’ll demand. Save yourself some time and energy and instead of making everyone happy, focus on what you want and what you need.

6. PERFECTION IS AN ILLUSION

Haven’t you heard? Perfection does not exist. Everyone has flaws. And it’s exactly the flaws that make people unique, peculiar, amazing and remarkable human beings. It’s the flaws that make us different from one another. Appreciate your differences and celebrate diversity.

7. YOU AND YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS

No one is going to live your life for you. Everything you choose to do, or you choose not to do, it’s on you. Pull yourself together and start taking responsibility for your actions.

8. FOLLOW YOUR FEELINGS

Pay attention to your emotions. Listen to your heart. Listen to what your inner voice has to say. Follow your intuition.

9. NOTHING WILL MATTER IN A COUPLE OF YEARS

The things you stressed over yesterday will be meaningless and stupid after one year. Someday you’ll realize how much energy and time you wasted on these worthless concerns, but it will be late.

10. TALENT IS NOTHING WITHOUT HARD WORK

Talent goes to waste if you stop upgrading it. Being talented about something is useless without the essential hard work. You can never use your talent and your skills if you don’t put them to use. “If you are good at something, don’t do it for free.”

11. THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THIS PRESENT MOMENT

The past is long gone and forgotten, and the future is unpredictable. Stop wasting your time regretting your decisions or dreading the future. Focus on what you have in this present moment. Appreciate every given moment in life. Live in the now, work hard, and hope for the best!

12. NO ONE REALLY CARES ABOUT HOW HARD YOUR LIFE IS

Guess why? Life is hard for everyone. We all have our struggles, we all have our battles to fight, our demons to live with. Stop complaining and start doing something about the things that bother you. No one is going to change your life, except yourself.

13. INVEST IN YOURSELF

If there’s something you want to do, do it. Start investing in your future. It’s up to you whether you’ll leave a meaningful legacy to the next generations.

14. RELATIONSHIPS ARE IMPORTANT, MAKE SURE TO BUILD HEALTHY AND POWERFUL CONNECTIONS

The more we grow old, the less time we have on our hands. And the less time we have, the more we avoid our relationships. But, love just doesn’t work that way. If you care for the people in your life, you have to make sure they know what they mean to you. Never stop investing in love.

15. NEVER STOP EXPLORING AND QUESTIONING EVERYTHING

Certainty will kill you. Instead of being an arrogant prick, question. Explore all the possibilities and question even the things you think you know. You’ll be surprised of how little we actually know of.

16. TIME IS EVERYTHING.USE IT WISELY

Remember, time will always go fast. You’ll never have enough time to do everything you want. But, luckily, a good organization can make wonders. Don’t wait for the right timing. Pick your timing and make it work!

17. YOUR REACTION IS ALL THAT MATTERS

No matter what’s happening in life, your reaction is the only thing that matters the most. The world can be crashing and the sky falling down, but if you choose to survive, you’ll make it. Your reaction to a situation literally has the power to change the situation.
