Dear husband, lover, best friend, life companion, soulmate, a partner in crime,
I promise to stay here beside you no matter where life takes us.
I give you my word that I will never leave you, no matter how hard it gets.
We’ve been together for so long that I cannot imagine living my life without you in it.
You’ve been there for me when I didn’t feel like myself. You’ve been there for me when I could barely leave the house because my anxiety made me feel terrified. You’ve been there for me when I felt too weak to keep moving on. You’ve been there for me when I lost my inspiration to work. You’ve been there for me when my family faced a great loss. You’ve been there for me when I failed in life. You’ve been there for me when some of the people in my life disappointed me and broke my heart. You’ve been there to wipe my tears and let me know that everything that is happening to me is for the best.
We’ve survived many hardships together. We’ve overcome so many heavy obstacles along the way that it still surprises me how we managed to find our happiness. We’ve been together through the heaviest storms, together in the most wonderful moments of our lives.
And this is just the beginning.
There will be days when you or I won’t feel like talking. There will be days when we won’t understand each other. We will look in each other’s eyes and we’ll feel like we don’t know who we are.
There will be days when time tests us once again. Days when we will have to prove our love to each other and make sure that we are strong enough to fight everything that is trying to destroy us.
There will be nights when we don’t fall asleep next to each other. Sometimes out of anger, sometimes because of our inner struggles, and sometimes because we will be obligated to keep a close eye on our baby.
There will be times when we realize that our intimacy has faded away and it is definitely not the priority of neither of our lists. Times when even making love will feel forced, strange or not really wanted.
But in those moments, I want you to try and remind yourself that I am always with you.
I chose you to be my life companion and I don’t plan on changing that ever.
I swore a sacred vow to spend my life loving you. And that means forever.
Despite all of those hardships and obstacles along the way, I want you to know that I will never stop caring about you. Whatever happens, wherever life takes us, I promise to remain faithfully beside you. Even when it seems like the whole universe is against us. Even when it feels to hard to carry on. Even when the road gets rocky and steep. Even when it takes a lot of work and a lot of patience to win our battles.
Know that even then, I will be there for you.
