Life is unpredictable. It can change in just a blink of an eye. Everything that keeps you alive and gets you going can cease to exist within seconds. The life that you’ve been building can collapse when you least expect it. Sadly, even your loved ones who are here with you today, might not live to see another break of dawn.
The most tragical and heart-breaking thing is that we never really realize how blessed we are until it’s too late. We never realize how happy we are to have such beautiful human beings around us until one day, they are gone.
Here are 8 things that you will go through once you lose your parents:
1. YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHY FAMILY COMES FIRST
It will be painful to accept this loss and embrace the pain inside your heart, but you will be forced to do it. Because they will no longer be there. Nothing or no one will be powerful enough to bring them back. For the first time in your life, you will realize that family comes first indeed. And that no other person will ever love you unconditionally and irrevocably as they did.
2. YOU WON’T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO FUNCTION FOR A WHILE
You will feel as though a part of you has been taken away. Because once you lose them, a part of your heart will die with them. It will be gone forever. You will no longer be the same person that you once were.
This devastating event will change your life and affect both your mental and physical state. It will take a lot of time for you to heal and get back on your feet. But eventually, you will be fine.
3. YOU WILL DEEL DEVASTATED AND ALONE
The pain will always stay there to remind you how cruel and unfair life is. It will never leave your heart. No matter how much you try to release yourself from the chains of sadness and let go of those painful feelings, you won’t be powerful enough to do it. In time you will learn to live with them.
4. YOU WON’T FEEL COMFORTABLE LISTENING TO PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR PARENTS
Listening to other people complaining about their parents and taking them for granted will drive you mad. It will force you to confront them and tell them that they should be happy they even have a family.
5. IN FACT, YOU WILL FEEL JEALOUS THAT THEY HAVE PARENTS TO SPEND TIME WITH
You will never understand these people because you would give everything in the world to have your mom hug you once again and tell you that everything is going to be okay. You will be so jealous of how blessed these people are, that you will secretly curse them for complaining about having to spend more time with their parents.
6. THE HOLIDAYS WILL NO LONGER BE THE SAME
The holiday cheer will fade away. Your mother won’t be there to call you up and remind you to buy a bottle of wine. She won’t be there to let you know that the table is set and that they are all waiting for you. Your father won’t be around to play with your children and share his funny, childhood stories with them. The holidays will no longer be the same.
7. YOU WILL STILL WANT TO CALL THEM WHEN YOU HAVE IMPORTANT NEWS
Every time something happens to you, you will get that feeling inside of you to call them up and let them know. Sometimes, you may even catch yourself clicking call just to see if anyone will pick up. The gut-wrenching pain of realizing that no one will ever pick up the phone will stay to haunt you forever.
8. YOU WILL REALIZE THAT YOU’VE TAKEN THEM FOR GRANTED
The biggest irony is that the moment you lose them will be the exact moment when you will realize just how much you loved them. Sadly, they will no longer be there to listen to everything that you had to say to them. They will no longer be there to see you grow and become the person they’ve always inspired you to be.
If you are lucky to have parents, don’t forget to let them know how much they mean to you. Visit them, take them out for lunch, call them up to let them know that you are thinking of them. Simply be there for them. Cherish the time spent with them.
After all, you never know what tomorrow will bring.
